Normal day,
let me be aware of the treasure you are.
Let me learn from you,
love you,
bless you before you depart.
Let me not pass you by
in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.
Let me hold you while I may,
for it may not always be so.
One day I shall dig my nails into the earth,
or bury my face in the pillow,
or stretch myself taut,
or raise my hands to the sky and want,
more than all the world, your return.

The poem above is a reminder to appreciate each and every "normal" day that you have. Cherish the moments with those you love, call family that you don't talk to everyday, hug your children a little tighter, never end a conversation with hard feelings or go to bed angry. It only takes one second for your life to change, one phone call or a few brief words uttered to shatter the world as you once knew it. We sometimes go along thinking that it won't happen to us but there are truly no guarantees. And once it is gone, there is no going back.
Today, is the one year anniversary of my brother passing away. There will be sadness but the day will also serve as a reminder to appreciate the blessings that we have in our lives. To find happiness in the little things and to love every second we have with our families and friends. I know Rickey would want nothing more for us than that.
Miss you Rickey - today and always.
