Happy 23 Months Kaylee & Alyssa!

Dear Kaylee and Alyssa,

Happy 23rd Month Birthday to you! Can you believe that in just 1 short month you will be 2 years old? I have been trying to explain this to you every day but you don't seem to get it just yet. I will ask you how old you are right now and prompt you to "Say 1." You look at me and say "2." I explain that "No, next month you will be 2." But as soon as you hear me say the number 2, you say "3." HaHa. I am sure you will understand that soon enough but I am not sure Mommy ever will. How did this happen? How has 2 years past soo quickly? It seems like time just goes by faster and faster and everyday I can't help but wonder what happened to my two little babies. Do you know that people are even asking me if you are three years old already?? Please... we don't need to rush this growing up thing anymore than it already is.

This month with you two has been a true delight. Don't get me wrong... it isn't all fun and games. You both have gone out of your way to demonstrate what we have to look forward to as we edge closer to the Terrible 2's... picture full out temper tantrums and stubbornness galore. But, the funny thing is that although it can be frustrating, it also makes me smile inside. I mean really, is your life that hard? Do we really need that much dramatics? Most would say that you are just learning from the best though so I do try to limit my complaints. HaHa. To be honest, I can't help but think about how sometimes I would just love to throw a temper tantrum myself. Would you mind if I joined you sometime? Is there such a thing as the "Terrible 27's?" :-)

I would have to say that the best things to happen this month are that you two are playing together more and that you are starting to become so much more creative in your play and talk. The one story that comes to mind happened just last weekend. Here is how the conversation went:

Mommy (to Alyssa): "Who are you?"
Alyssa: "Girl"
Mommy: "Yes, I know you are a girl, but what is your name?"
Alyssa: "Kaylee"
Mommy: "No, you are not Kaylee. That is your sister. You are Alyssa."
Mommy: "What is your name?"
Alyssa: "Kaylee" (big smile at this point)

Mommy (to Kaylee): "Who are you?
Kaylee: "Girl"
Mommy: "Yes, I know you are a girl, but what is your name?"
Kaylee: "Alyssa"
Mommy: "No, you are not Alyssa. That is your sister. You are Kaylee."
Mommy: "What is your name?"
Kaylee: "Papa" (both of them bust out in laughter)

All I can say is "watch out" to anyone who can't tell you apart yet. The tricks are starting already. HaHa.

But seriously, this month has just been lots of fun. You two play games with each other, hold hands, look out for one another, and the funniest thing is that you almost seem to have your own secret language. I am not sure what you say to each other but you always seem to know exactly what is going on and how to respond to one another. It is pretty neat. You are in love with Dora and get excited anytime you see anything Dora related. In fact, we have decided to make your 2nd birthday theme the "Dora Catching Stars" theme. I can't wait to see your faces when you see a whole room full of Dora stuff. I am sure you will be in awe and very excited unless you somehow change your mind and decide you wanted "Elmo and Cook-Cook" instead. :-) You are both very into dressing up in your pretty clothes, putting "hair pretties" in, and wearing your dress shoes. You are even to the point where if you don't like a certain pair of shoes with your outfit then you will sit down and switch them. Daddy has so much fun dealing with that every morning. You absolutely love to be outside. It does not matter how hot it is or what you are doing. You just love the freedom to run around and get into messes. You are both climbing on everything and love to have us give you airplane rides and horsie rides. You both love to sing and dance and will put on little dance shows on command. Overall, you just love life and come into each day with so much energy and excitement. It is certainly contagious and you bring us a whole new outlook on life.

You are full of hugs and kisses and your newest thing is to run to us when we come into your view and say "I missed you." This is the same whether we have been gone for hours or possibly just seconds but it never fails to melt our hearts when we hear those words.

Love,
Mama

A little conversation from this weekend:

"Alyssa... say cheese"

"No, really. Smile and say cheese."

"I can't hear you Mommy!"

"Are you ready to say cheese now?"

"Okay, there's that pretty smile."

"Cheese!!"

"Kaylee, can you say cheese?"
"Not this again!"

Telling Secrets...

Kaylee Bella. Isn't she yummy? She gets more adorable every single day and in the rare moments when she stops running, I could just grab her and eat her up!

Her new thing is to tell me "secrets." She will run over to me, put her mouth against mine, and whisper to me. Most of what she says sounds Chinese but the one thing she says that is so clear and melts my heart every time is "I love you." I love you too baby girl... more than you will ever know.

4th of July Weekend

We had another fun and busy long weekend - although it ended too soon as always. I love holiday weekends and always wonder why every weekend couldn't be a 3 or 4 day weekend. Wouldn't that be nice? Better yet, maybe we should work 2 days and have 5 days off. That sounds more like it!

We started off the weekend by picking up Grammy on Thursday evening. She spent the night with us and the girls were very excited to see her. She hasn't seen the girls in about a month and was surprised by how much they have grown and learned in just that short time. They loved showing off for her and she was spoiling them with junk food every time I turned around! We were happy to be able to celebrate her 83rd birthday over the weekend and the girls (or should I say Mommy) devoured a whole lot of birthday cake and ice cream.

Happy Birthday Grammy. We love you!

Our 4th of July was fairly low-key. We enjoyed a relaxing day at home and had a cook-out with family. We had lots of good food but for some reason both girls decided that they would just eat ketchup and spinach dip for their dinner. They dipped their hot dogs in the ketchup and licked it off and then went as far as to eat ketchup by the spoon. *GAG* After coaxing them to eat "something, anything, please?" for a while I gave up and decided to let them eat in peace. I enjoyed my food and they were able to enjoy theirs. And, that should count as eating their veggies, right? We were planning on going to see fireworks but a few storms passed through and by the time it had cleared the girls were already in bed. I was surprised they didn't wake up to hear the loud fireworks going off in the area. Oh well, there is always next year.

The rest of the weekend was full of different activities. On Saturday, we went to My Gym and the girls were so much more well behaved this time around. They are still not really sure about circle time but they did participate in the other activities and didn't throw temper tantrums when the swings were taken away. We are making progress!

On Sunday morning we played dress-up and the girls really had fun choosing their outfits. I threw their hair up into messy pigtails and we had a mini photo shoot again. Or, in other words, Mommy bribed the girls to sit still long enough to snap a few photos!

We also we able to watch a rock concert put on by none other than Alyssa Marie. She was singing, dancing, and playing her Backyardigan's guitar. American Idol here we come.

In the afternoon, we headed to the pool and the girls had a blast. They jumped in, played with the pool toys, and did their best to stay away from their crazy cousin Brendon who tried to splash them every chance he got. Kaylee even thought she was big enough to swim by herself and was trying to push her daddy away.

That was pretty much the end of our holiday weekend and I imagine I have wrote enough. As Alyssa would say "Enough Mama!"

Her Smile...

My Alyssa - this little lady is growing feistier and becoming more "drama-full" by the minute. She is always making me laugh with just how dramatic she can be. Grandma says that is exactly how I was as a child so I guess we know where it comes from. :-)

She is just so cuddly and sooooo darn cute! Her smile gets me every time...

PS - For those of you making jokes about me showing favoritism... my next post will be about Kaylee. :-)

Back Together Again!

Last week I had to travel to a FedFleet Conference in Dallas, TX. I have not been on many work trips during the last two years due to my pregnancy and the girl's first year but it seems that travel is picking back up some this year. I don't mind traveling a few times each year and although I miss my family terribly, I also try to enjoy the little bit of freedom that work travel provides. After all, it isn't everyday that I can sleep in, take an elevator ride as my "commute", and go out to have dinner and fruity drinks every evening after work. Who could complain? Oh, and the actual conference was pretty good as well. :-) I also got to see my friend Lynne who lives in Atlanta. We are email, text, and IM buddies but haven't actually hung out in person for over 3 years. Crazy!
Enjoying dinner and drinks at "Gators" in Dallas

Although the trip went well, I have never been more ready to come home to my girls and it seems by their reaction that they were equally as happy to see me. I was bombarded with hugs and kisses and the most special part of all was how they were looking at me like I wasn't quite real, like they couldn't believe it was really me! They were touching my face and saying "Mama... Mama." What a great homecoming!

To celebrate my return, we played with the gifts I brought for the girls. They got a bubble wand and a purple "best friends" purse with two puppies inside. They loved their new toys although they spilled all the bubbles within five seconds of filling up the wand. Independence is key these days at our house so they just had to hold the wand themselves! We pretty much relaxed for most of the weekend; played in the pool, helped with yard work, did a little shopping, and had lunch out at Famous Dave's with Grandma. It was a very nice weekend and it was funny to see all the new things the girls learned in just the short few days I was away. They seemed to be even more talkative than before I had left and we have officially entered the "Mine" stage. Everything is "Mine, Mine, MINE!" I have a feeling hitting the Terrible 2's times 2 is gonna throw us all for a loop!

Here are a few pictures I managed to take throughout the weekend:

Kaylee in her Princess swimsuit

Alyssa and Brendon playing in the pool
And then we reached a point where the girls clearly did not want their picture taken anymore!

Alyssa saying "Stop It!!"

So, that was the end of the pictures for the weekend. We just enjoyed being together again and are very happy that we will have another 3 day weekend coming up! Have a great week!
