Happy Birthday Rickey!
Today, my brother would have turned 27 years old. He would have been woken up to happy birthday greetings from his kids, opened up birthday cards from his family, received happy birthday messages from all his facebook friends, and been excited to open some nice new (and expensive) clothes or shoes from his mom. After work, he would have gone to his favorite restaurant, Schezuan Garden, for dinner with the family. He would have put in his order for Kung Pao Chicken, cooked just the way he liked it, a favorite he shared with his dad. He would have spent the night laughing and rough housing with all the kids who could never get enough of their Daddy and Uncle Rickey and blushed like crazy when his stepmom had them bring out a cake and play the Happy Birthday song over the loudspeakers.
Instead, Rickey celebrated his 27th birthday up in Heaven with Jesus while we had a little celebration down here in his honor. We ate his favorite foods, had his children blow out his birthday candles, and released balloons filled with missing and birthday wishes up to heaven so he could catch them. There was sadness but it was a great night celebrating the life and memory of a wonderful man, son, brother, father, and friend to so many.
